Minnesota Housing Partnership (MHP) will kick-off a new 18 month long Housing Institute and Swift County has been invited to participate. Selection was based on a joint grant application by Swift County HRA and RDA seeking technical assistance in the areas of Community Engagement/Collaborative planning toward developing new housing, Preservation and rehabilitation of existing housing, and Building Capacity of the County’s development agencies through training and professional certification opportunities.
“I’m thrilled we were selected”, said Vicki Syverson, Executive Director of Swift County HRA. “Once I knew we were being considered for this program, it was all I could think about! This will be an exciting way for Swift County to learn about new initiatives and collaborate with our neighbors on projects that will result in enhanced housing options in Swift County.”
Established in 2010, MHP’s Housing Institute brings together regional housing leaders and stakeholders to share their experiences, learn best practices, and develop creative solutions to bring quality housing to their communities. The Institute has shown that engaging different stakeholders in truly effective and meaningful partnerships is the key ingredient to completing short-term projects and sustaining long-term relationships that lead to vibrant rural communities and regions.
This round of Housing Institute will begin with a workshop February 13 and 14, 2018. Staff of the Swift County HRA and RDA will bring in additional stakeholders as team members and establish County goals which will help MHP design curriculum and engage speakers that are relevant to Swift County’s housing needs. While costs of the training, lodging and food is covered by MHP, team members are expected to commit their time to attend the five workshops and monthly team meetings in order to advance a housing project in the County.
